Aligners are used to straighten crooked teeth and improve the general appearance of the mouth. Invisalign is a near-transparent type of dental aligners and it is regarded as a more effective alternative to braces. If you are considering getting Invisalign, then some of these questions will be running through your mind.
- Will it affect what I eat?
This is one of the advantages that Invisalign has over braces; you can eat anything without fear that food particles will get stuck in the device. Also, you can just remove it whenever you want to eat and put it back right after.
- Will the way I talk change?
Just after fixing the Invisalign, your speech may change a little and you may notice a minor lisp. This is just your tongue getting used to the aligners. Within a week, your speech will be back to normal and you won’t even remember that the Invisalign is in your mouth.
- Will Invisalign smell or give me bad breath?
As long as you take good care of your mouth and the device, there will be no foul smell. Brush and floss after eating, be it a full meal or snacks. Also, clean the aligners daily.
- How do I clean it?
Invisalign has a kit that was created to clean the aligners. You may also clean the device by soaking it in a 50-50 solution of water and vinegar OR water and hydrogen peroxide. Clear mouthwash could also work.
- Can I kiss with the aligners on?
Yes, and unless you tell them, your partner will hardly be able to tell when you have Invisalign on and when you don’t.
